Nutrition Crisis in Africa
Many residents, especially children and infants, are suffering from malnutrition in the Sahel region of West Africa. In 2005, the area suffered its worst food epidemic ever. However, even during the best times, the area endures some of the highest malnutrition rates in the world. To avoid another plague in 2006, the United Nations is launching a funding appeal for an estimated $92 million to cover the food and nutritional needs of all Sahelian countries.
