Music of Motown Remixed

Popular music in the new millennium rarely reflects the harmonious, heartwarming spirit of soul in the '60s and '70s. Motown, on the other hand, in 2005 is both a monument of times past and a current label bridging the gap. This segment looks at classic Motown songs infused by modern day evolution and inspired by yesterdays spirit of soul. The different approach to songs like the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" and Eddie Kendricks' ever-changing "Keep on Truckin, Rick James' "Mary Jane" leave the melodical structure of the respective songs untouched, a clear gesture of respect towards the originals. Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," and Gladys Knight & The Pips' "I Heard it Through the Grapevine." pay close tribute to the original without sounding much like it. This look at a radical time-traveling attempt illustrates the past and future of Motown.
